How to do this assignment!
1 WRIT 200 The Final Assignment Worth 35% of your Final Grade The Assignment: to create an Executive Summary , provide the research process that informs it and to craft a follow -up email of gratitude Objective: to display a mastery of what we have learned this semester What is an Executive Summary? Please review the Power Point presentation entitled, ‘Parts of a Formal Report’, located in your W eek 11 folder . It will give you a detailed description of what goes into a formal report and an executive summary. An executive summary is an overview or synopsis of contents of a full business/formal report. The Scenario: You are still an employee at Theranos. However, it is clear that the company will soon be closing its doors. One of Theranos’ private investors comes to you and says that she heard that you sent an email out to the customer base of Theranos and that she found that admirable. This investor explains that she has a significant sum of money earmarked to invest in your industry. She wants to see a formal report from you in ten days. [We will focus on crafting a strong Executive Summary.] Hint: In order to summarise something, one must have a comprehensive understanding of material they are discussing. Do the research on your position and industry online before writing the summary. 2 The Research (Ten Marks) Once you have chosen your job position at Theranos you must go online and find information to: Define your role (in complete sentences ) What your duties are in that role (provide four specific duties ) Determine what some others in ‘your position’ are doing at other companies (provide two specific discoveries ) Your research can be submitted in a photographed, handwritten copy, or typed. Give your research a title: My Research Component. It must be uploaded as part of your final project, not as a separate document. If you do not have the means to incorporate a handwritten document into your report then you must type you notes. The Executive Summary (Ten Marks) Once you’ve researched key elements of your position, then you determine what you would do if given a chance to have your own business in that industry (if your choice is to be an actor [creative affairs], you can still run a production company or agency). Choose TWO of those innovations (things you would do differently, or your fresh approach to the business) you would put in place , in your new post at your new company. Your summary must be : R eader benefit focused (PAIBOC and the five C ’s) N o more than two pages in length The purpose statement must be clear and near the beginning of the summary Professional with a title N.B. We are an English course, not a business course. I am not overly concerned with the innovations themselves as much as your ability to explain them and serve the needs of the reader. Your final paper will lose significant marks if it has a host of spelling and grammatical errors. 3 The Follow -Up Email (Ten Marks) Once you have ‘delivered’ (written) your Executive Summary to the investor, you will craft an email thanking her for her time and for the opportunity to have present ed your ideas. Remember, this woman is not your friend, you must maintain a professional tone throughout every interaction you have with her. Your email must include All professional elements of crafting an email (signature, subject line etc) o The investor’s (fictional) name is Gordana Sloan o Her email address is [email protected] All elements of PAIBOC Proper spelling and punctuation 4 The Grading Rubric Spelling/Grammar and Professionalism 5 The Executive Summary 10 The Follow -Up Email 10 The Research Component 10 Total 35 arr
