The trolley has a little bit of inertia to it, and you’re looking for a way to stop the trolley early. On the bridge with you is a really, really fat man. Like, not just a little. Huge. Most massive man you’ve ever seen.If you push the fat man, he will fall on the track and stop the trolley. He’ll be the only one that dies. If you refuse, the five will die. The Utilitarian would advocate we push the fat man for the sake of the consequences, and the Deontologist would argue that the consequences aren’t relevant.Is it moral to push that fat man? Why or why not? Did you switch your answer from the original lever thought experiment? Why? If “it saves lives” was the answer then, why isn’t it the answer now?
