Traditional Literature (6:52) (video) Book Summary During each of the Units 3, 4, & 5, select one of the books you chose to meet the Annotated Bibliography requirements and summarize that story by creating a 6-panel visual using Storybook That.  (Specific instructions are provided for this task to prevent you from needing to purchase the application.) Resource(s): StoryboardThat Directions Handout  Creating a Book Summary with Storyboard That 1. Go to http://www.storyboardthat.com and click Create a Storyboard. 2. The site will default to a 3 X 1 storyboard. Click Add Cells to add another row to your storyboard. Click 3 X 2, and then click Update Storyboard. Note: The free version only allows you to expand to 3 X 2, which works for this particular assignment. 3. Click Storyboard Layout and select Cell & Description layout for your book summary. 4. Use the menu at the top to ‘illustrate’ your summary. a. Scenes – Select from a variety of categories and background scenes for your story. Simply click and drag the background to the appropriate cell. Edit color schemes, etc., as desired. b. Characters – Select from a variety of characters and accessories. Editing tools give the option to change hair, skin, and eye colors as well as the characters’ poses. c. Textables – Give words to your characters using one of many speech/thought bubbles. d. Shapes, Web & Technology, and Science – limited with the free version, but feel free to explore as desired. Creating a Book Summary with Storyboard That 5. Copy Cells allows you to take all objects within a cell and replicate them in another cell. Objects and text items are still editable. 6. Click Save to save your work. Note: you will likely be prompted to save your story as you are working. You can click OK and continue working until you are ready to save the final product. You will need to create an account to save your finished project. 7. Give your story a title and save it. 8. Because the free version places a large watermark over each panel of a downloaded image, you will need to take a screenshot of each row of your finished project. This will give you 2 digital images to submit to your instructor via Canvas. Author Study Select a children’s or adolescent author – preferably a personal favorite, one from an Annotated Bibliography book entry, or one you might want to learn more about.  Then, using the Haiku Deck (Links to an external site.) application, create a presentation to share with classmates. Be sure to include biographic information, significant events in the author’s life, how they came to be a writer, some of their publications, etc.  Be sure to include a References slide at the end of the presentation.  The final product should be a balance of graphics / visuals / photos and text.  Creativity is encouraged and appreciated. NOTE: Author selections must be approved by the instructor in the Author Study Selection in Unit 2, as each author may only be selected once.  This assignment is set up as a discussion board to facilitate classroom interaction and feedback. This requirement will facilitate broader knowledge base about a wider variety of authors.
